Assignment 8; composition-scale depth, framing. simplicity

                                                                             Scale

Although many others have taken the same picture, I decided to use this as my example for scale. Everyone loves ice cream. I wish I had come up with something a little bit more original, but couldn't. To be honest I didn't fully grasp the concept of scale up until recently. So taking a picture of something I didn't understand was a little bit tricky

Simplicity
I really like this photo. It was very difficult to take it because it was windy outside, and I had set my camera to macro mode. Most of my attempts turned out blurry except this one. Life is simple and beautiful. This picture also combines nice colors and has some texture

Depth

Assignment #9; composition, texture, repetition, angle of view

Contrast
For my contrast picture, I chose this one.

I really like how bright the colors of the roses are. They really pop, and for a second I thought that My EV was too high, but I realized that the roses are actually white-tipped. I name this one, french tip rose:)
However, I went to the aquarium and took some pictures, and I wanted to share this one as well. I am really drawn to the combination of the deep blue and orange of the Medusa.

Texture
For texture, I picked the little feather on gravel. It was actually tiny. I had to kneel down to get a good look. It was a completely coincidental discovery. I tripped, looked down, and not only does the texture contrasts between rock and feather, but the colors as well.
Because I have some weird fascination with trees, I also wanted to include this one:
And this one!---------->
 Repetition

I would just like to say for the record, goats don't listen very well. I stood there, making faces, and jumping, whistling and all kind of silly things to try and get them to look at me all at once. NO LUCK. One even had the nerve to say BEEEHHHH. On a different note, I really like goats, and taking photos of them. They are very photogenic:)

 Angle of View

I had a hard time getting the focus right. However, I can't say i hate the way it is in the picture. I am curious as to whether this would also work for a representation of depth.Again, my fascination of trees has influenced this photo greatly. It also has texture.  I walked under many trees hoping to spot a critter on one of them. I had no luck. I still took this photo because I loved the colors on the bark. I did find a spider, but not on a tree. Here he is:)

Activity log week 8

Last week on my jog, I went down to  the quay and ran from the giant tin man to the bridge. By the fountain, I came across a friendly car who insisted I stopped and give him some attention. I couldn't resist the temptation, I pet the car out of him:) my jog lasted about 35 minutes. After the bridge, I ended up by the car dealership on marine. U then ran uphill until 10th and home from there. Another memorable run!

Assignment #8 smiles!!!

My cat Lisa is so vain. Compliments just make her smile!
Dare say she doesn't have the shiniest coat, the sharpest teeth and brightest eyes..

JUST KIDDING LISA!!!!!

Assignment #3 Discovering my type of photography.

This assignment gave me nightmares. I thought about this question and it tortured me. I was beginning to think that I am an empty human being that is tasteless and careless. At last, I have finally found my "type" of photography.

I don't know what exactly this "type" of photography would be called. I prefer when there is no people in it, just nature. It also has to be a picture that captures a moment, and gives me a certain feeling. I realised this once, when I was going through some personal hardships. I was standing outside, and I had an urge to take a picture to remember that exact moment. I feel like a picture can capture that "feeling" one is experiencing at the moment.

For some reason, I appreciate emptiness in photographs. As in, no people, no sign of civilization. It almost feels as though I could smell the air in the photograph, feel the wind and the temperature. Maybe you can suggest th specific name of this style of photo?

Assignment #7: Rule of Thirds and Leading Lines

Rule of Thirds and Leading Lines

This picture was taken in attempt to follow the rule of thirds. However, I wasn't as successful as I had wished. The photo turned out to look differently once uploaded on the computer. There is some mild editing. I used simple color enhancement and I also had to crop the photograph slightly. I should have stepped back one or two steps in order to capture a wider background. That way, it would have been easier to manipulate the placement of the subject. I took this picture because it looked like the lens was looking back at me, in a somewhat lively way.

The above picture was my attempt at leading lines. I wish the boats weren't there as they create some confusion and crowd my photo too much. Perhaps if there was something interesting at the end of my photograph, it would have been more successful.

I took this picture in another attempt at leading lins. When I looked up at the sky, I couldn't help but think it looked like a tetris game:) My imagination runs wild. I had to crop the picture slightly to make it look like what I had seen at the time. I don't think many people see it the same way I did. I don't think this is an accurate representation of leading lins as it doesn't lead to anything. It was just a random shot that caught my attention but I still chose to include it in my post.

This picture, I had high hopes for this one ...
When I took the photograph, I thought there would be more doors included in it. From the abgle I was standing at, the doors created a clear line towards the girl, who in turn is pointing in a new direction. It is like a zig zag that eye must follow. D'Alice suggested that the picture would have been better if I managed to close the last door, but I intended for it to b open. I wanted the audience to want to peak inside the slightly opened door to wonder what is hiding behind.

With this asignment, I realised that what I see is not what ends up in the shot. Every single picture looked different at the time it was taken and once I opened them, on the computer. I will work on making it more accurate and consistent.

Assignment #6 White balance

The first three pictures were taken inside. The first one was on auto mode, second in fluorescent and third was on the second fluorescent mode. The white of the pearls and cup was not pure. Therefore, it is hard to tell which of the three pictures is more accurate.

Now for the outside shots, I still decided to use the cup and the pearls. However, as I was taking the pictures, i noticed an old cigarette butt lying by my objcts. I included it into my picture since the white of the cigarette was a little closer to the real thing. As I was leaning down to take the pictures, a man walked past me and threw a full cigarette at my feet and said: use this. Strange yes, did it help? Also a yes. It was an interesting development. It made my assignment easir and more interesting. Now, my photo tells a story. For the first shot, I used fluorescent mode, then cloudy, then auto. I think the camera made the right decision. What I found strange was that it was a cloudy day and the camera didnt chose the cloudy setting. The auto mode mode was deffinetely the most accurate. What do you think?

Assignment # 5 Exposure Composition Assignment

Assignment #5 : Exposure Composition Assignment

In this assignment, we were asked to take 5 pictures of two subjects. One that is dominantly light in tone, and the other that is dark. The purpose of taking 5 pictures of each was to experiment with the different EV +/-
This is my compilation of the dark toned subject;

What I am noticing is that the far left image, which was taken at EV2- is too dark. The picture at EV1- looks much better but is not quite as clear as the one at EV0. As we go into the positives, the pictures become blown out and blurry as there is too much light.

Here, I have my compilation of the light tone subject. I am noticing all the same issues with the extreme negative and extreme positive. The eV2+ completely blurs the picture making it almost all white. The EV2- is just too dark and hard to the eyes.Although I was manually able to adjust the exposure, the 0 seemed to be the best option with both subjects. It made me wonder if although it was set to manual mode, the camera still decided where the m,middle should be.

Assignment #1 A Little About Me

Well! Here we are in Photo 12.
How exciting.I never thought I would be taking Photo class but when I saw it on the list of courses, my curiosity peaked. Also, this is my last semester after many here at POWER, and I need the credits:/
I always considered myself a rather creative person, but not a visually creative person. When I used to live in Montreal, I went to F.A.C.E school, which is is short for Foundation of Arts at the Core of Education. The curriculum included art class, singing, drama and instrumental. I played flute and then changed to percussion which i enjoyed much more. Music has always been my strong point as my parents put me through 16 years of classical piano classes. I used to hate it as a kid, but as the years went by I became deeply attached to what soon became my passion. When i was 16, I started straying away from classical and got into writing and singing my own tunes. I still to this day enjoy playing and consider it my escape. On another note, ( haha note...see what I did there?) i enjoy everything to do with fitness, nutrition, and well being. I love the outdoors just as much as running on the treadmill on a rainy day. So far, I feel this semester will be successful with P.E and Photo 12 combined. I will be able to get into better shape while learning to document it!
